Mech Arena Gameplay Overview

Get ready to experience brutal PvP combat between badass robots in the gladiatorial arena of the future. Welcome to the Mech Arena Gameplay Overview!

Mech Arena is free-to-play, and you only need to download it from the App Store, Google Play, or Plarium Play to get started. You can sync your progress across all devices by using the same Plarium ID for the game on them all. If you’re already playing on mobile, just follow the Account Sync Instructions to sync progress and enjoy cross-platform play.

Now, let’s get straight to the action!

Game Modes

Control Point Clash

The very first Game Mode available to you, and the source of some of the most exciting tactical battles you’ll have in the Arena. You’ll be introduced to Control Point Clash as part of the Tutorial.

Two Teams of five compete for control of points across a map. Once you’ve claimed a point for your Team, it’ll start to tick up your Victory Counter. The more points you control, the quicker your Counter ticks up. Reach 100 and your Team wins. Simple, right?

Well, no…because the other Team has the exact same goal.

Work with your Teammates to capture and hold your Control Points while taking down your opponents’ Mechs and harrying their captured Points.

2v2 Deathmatch

Same principle as 5v5, but with smaller teams, smaller maps and maximum brutality. With only one Teammate to watch your back, it’s on you to fight tactically and ruthlessly and win with pure skill.

Enemies approaching in 2v2 Deathmatch

Free-For-All

It’s every Mech for itself in Free-For-All – the most chaotic Game Mode. It’s just you and your five Mechs against everyone else in a rush to see who can cause the most destruction in the time limit.

Free-For-All requires that you reach League Division 9 and have a full Squad of five Mechs. It’s currently only available during Tournaments.

Starting the Killshot Campaign in Onslaught

Onslaught

Are you ready to fight to survive? Onslaught is a solo PvE Mode where you take on waves of bots using specific Mechs. You need to clear multiple Levels, each with their own Weapon requirements. Battle your way through hordes of enemies, work towards a spot on the Leaderboard and earn incredible rewards.

There are several different Onslaught Campaigns and you’ll need to reach different amounts of XP to unlock each one.

Divisions

As you win games, you’ll earn Ranking Points which allow you to climb the League Divisions.

Advancing through the League Divisions gives numerous benefits:

  • Unlocks new Game Modes and Features
  • Grants you resource crates (once per Division)
  • Increases your overall caps on Victory and Combat points
  • Resets the counter of Victory Points, Combat Points and XP earned that day

The feature unlocks per Division are:

Division 10:

  • Custom Matches
  • Control Point Clash Mode
  • Friends List
  • Team Matches

Division 9:

  • 5v5 Deathmatch Mode
  • Free-For-All Mode
  • Tournaments
  • Chat
  • Fortune Vaults

Division 8:

  • Clans

Division 7:

  • 2v2 Deathmatch

Division 5:

  • Custom Match Hosting

Division 1:

  • Season Divisions

Losing Battles means you lose Ranking Points, which can cause you to drop down through the Divisions. Note that this does not remove any benefits you have already received from Division progress.

Once you reach Division 1, you’ll have completed the League Division progression track. Instead, you’ll become eligible for Season Divisions: competitive Division progress that resets regularly.

Resources

Playing Matches earns you Combat Points, and winning gets you Victory Points. These are used to open Silver and Gold Crates, which can contain Credits, Blueprints, and A-Coins

Gold and Silver Crates waiting to be opened

There are other resources available, such as Fortune Vault Keys, which open Crates containing resources and cosmetic Skins, but the three above are the most critical to your progression: upgrading your Mechs and Weapons, and acquiring new ones. Fortunately, there are plenty of ways to get them.

Playing Matches will advance you along the currently active Battle Pass, and will also earn you XP, which advances you along the Progress Path. Both award you with hearty helpings of Credits, A-Coins, and more.

Daily and Weekly Objectives are another way to get quick hits of resources, ensuring you make regular progress.

Developing Your Hangar

One of your first goals should be to open up the full five Slots in your Hangar. This is where you’ll prepare the Mechs you want to take into Battle, so opening all slots gives you the maximum number of Mechs to play with each Round.

You’ll need Credits and A-Coins to unlock all five. Keep playing Matches and completing Objectives until you get enough!

Gear Hub

New Gear is acquired from the Gear Hub. It shows every Mech and Weapon in the Game, so you can start planning out your collection.

The Gear Hub is organized into Tiers. When acquiring Gear with in-game resources, you’ll need to progress in order by unlocking and upgrading enough Gear in your current Tier to access the next one.

Note that Gear acquired via in-app purchases is not subject to this. If you purchase a Mech or Weapon, it is available to use regardless of its Tier.

Newly released Mechs and Weapons cannot usually be acquired in the Gear Hub, and are instead offered as exclusive Event rewards. They are then released into the Gear Hub after a time.

Make progress through the Gear Hub

Grades

Every piece of Gear in the game has a Grade. While Gear of all Grades is useful, the higher its Grade, the higher its base stats will typically be.

The Grades are:

  • Common (Gray)
  • Uncommon (Green)
  • Rare (Blue)
  • Epic (Purple)
  • Legendary (Gold)

Higher-Grade Gear may also feature more complex mechanics, which is why they’re placed further along the Tier progression track.

Mechs

Wouldn’t be much of a Mech Arena Gameplay Overview without info on Mechs, right?

Make progress through the Gear Hub

Mechs are the beating heart of the game. You can have up to five in your Squad at a time to be deployed during Matches, but the more Mechs you collect the more options you’ll have for tailoring different Squad compositions.

Every Mech can equip up to two Weapons and a Pilot. Each has its own Ability, too: a special function that sets it apart from its peers and can change the course of a Battle.

Mechs come in four Types:

  • Attacker – These Mechs tend to have very high Energy Capacity, which means they can equip the biggest, baddest Weapons in the game.
  • Scout – This Type includes Mechs with high Speed stats and/or mobility-related Abilities. They tend to have lower Energy Capacity, but make up for it with maneuverability.
  • Tank – Geared towards defensive playstyles, Tanks can take a ton of damage while dealing respectable amounts themselves. They can often deploy Shields, either around themselves, or on the battlefield to help your Team.
  • Support – These Mechs usually have an Ability that performs an indirect function, such as disabling enemy Mechs, buffing friendly Mechs, or deploying a useful object. Used well, they can turn a hopeless situation into a victory.

During the tutorial you’ll pick up a Paragon – an Attacker Mech whose Ability gives it a quick boost of Speed – and Lancer, a Scout Mech which can Jump to reach prime firing positions.

Fill out your Hangar with a Squad of Mechs that complements your preferred playstyle. Check out the Gear Hub to preview them and start planning some builds!

You can even unlock Squad Presets to keep several of your favorite combinations to hand.

Weapons

Mechs are great, but you won’t get far without a Weapon or two.

A close up of a Common Assault Weapon - the Autocannon 2.

Each Mech in your Hangar can equip up to two Weapons at a time. A Mech can only equip Weapons whose total Energy Cost is within its Energy Capacity.

Weapons come in the following Types:

  • Assault – Reliable and versatile, Assault Weapons are the first you’ll use in Mech Arena. They’re easy to use, work well at most ranges, have a consistent Damage output, and last a while before you’ll need to reload.
  • Missile – Another flexible Weapon Type, Missile Weapons take a little more skill to target at range than Assault Weapons due to their slower Projectile Speed, but typically do Splash Damage across a significant radius.
  • Beam – Compared to other Weapon Types, Beams inflict Damage at a lower rate, but their long Range more than makes up for it – as do the various Debuffs they can cause with sustained fire.
  • Close Quarters – Short Range. High Damage. Get up into your opponent’s grill and let loose with a Close Quarters Weapon and they won’t know what hit them.
  • Sniper – Massive Range and Damage per hit. Sniper Weapons usually have a low rate of fire and small Magazine, but what does that matter if you’re taking out the enemy from the other side of the map?
  • Guided – These handy Weapons all have one thing in common – they work with a Target Lock that helps them find their unlucky victims. Coupled with arcing trajectories, these beauties can take out enemies behind cover or around corners, allowing some interesting tactics.
  • Artillery – Indirect Weapons that allow you to bombard the opposition from afar, sending them running for cover (assuming they survive).
  • Heavy Duty – Assault Weapons…but bigger. They might be a bit more unwieldy than their little cousins, but nothing deals sustained devastation quite like a Heavy Duty Weapon.
  • Barrage Indirect Weapons that lob explosive projectiles over obstacles. Used well, they can really ruin your opponent’s day.

Pilots

Once you’ve set up your Mechs, you can also assign Pilots to them. These elite warriors are full of personality, and grant potent stat boosts to your Mech builds.

Each one grants an HP and Damage Boost to your Mechs, and an additional Damage boost to their specialized Weapon Type. Certain Limited Edition Pilots may have two specialized Weapon Types and additional benefits, but none are currently available to acquire.

Pilots come in Rare, Epic, and Legendary/Limited Edition Grades, with higher stats the higher their Grade. Higher-Grade Pilots also have more slots for equipping Implants, which we’ll cover shortly.

Pilots are acquired via the Inventory (found within the Gear Hub) for Credits or A-Coins, in the Shop for in-app purchases, or as Event rewards.

Meet a diverse range of Pilots and learn their stories

Implants

Each Pilot has multiple slots in which to equip Implants: cybernetic enhancements that grant the Pilot further beneficial stats.

Upgrade Implants and enhance your Weapons

These give general boosts to stats such as Ability Cooldown or Ability Damage, or more specific bonuses to individual Mechs or Weapons.

Use them to further specialize your Pilots and fine-tune your Mech builds.

You can grab up to three free Implant Crates each day from the Shop. You can also get Implants from Events, or from in-app purchases.

Upgrades

As well as unlocking new Mechs, Weapons, Pilots, and Implants, you’ll want to upgrade the ones you have for optimal performance.

Mechs and Weapons have 6 Ranks. Within each Rank is 7 Levels. Leveling up costs Blueprints for the item in question, plus Credits. Increasing Rank costs A-Coins.

Each Level will increase base stats, whereas increasing Rank will often give bigger boosts, or even add benefits that grant larger increments of power.

Slingshot, an Uncommon Scout Mech and a list of its Stats

In the case of Mechs, increasing Rank is particularly important, as it increases the Mech’s Energy Capacity, allowing use of bigger, more powerful Weapons.

Weapons with an Energy Cost of 8 or less come in pairs, so you always have two of them to equip. When you unlock a Weapon with an Energy Cost of 10 or higher, you’ll only have one. Increasing the Weapon’s Rank to 6 Gold Stars will unlock the second Weapon.

Make Friends

Mech Arena’s great when played solo, but it’s all the better with friends.

Friends

Got real-life friends who play? Team up with a particularly awesome player in a Quick Match? Be sure to add them to your Friends List so you can see when they’re online.

Joining a game as a premade party gets you an XP boost, and some Events include Objectives that involve playing with Friends, so having a list of trusted buddies is a must.

Clans

You can also create or join a Clan to build a sense of team unity and chat with like-minded Mech-heads.

Again, there are sometimes Objectives to play games with your Clanmates, so being part of one is definitely worthwhile.

Discord

Referrals

Got friends who haven’t yet entered the Arena? Drop them an invite via the Referral Program. You’ll get some sweet rewards once they progress far enough in the game – including the exclusive Cryo Javelin 6 and 12 Weapons.

Events and Objectives

There’s always something new happening in Mech Arena. Events are your chance to pick up some awesome in-game rewards and often introduce new content, so be sure to check back in regularly and keep progressing!

Daily and Core

Complete Objectives to get useful resources

It’s worth logging into Mech Arena every day. Not only will you get a reward from the Daily Login Program, but there are Daily and Weekly Objectives to complete.

These reset at the relevant intervals (although Weekly Objectives will stick around until you’ve finished the

current set).

This section also contains the Gear Hub Objectives – one-time tasks related to your progress through the Gear Hub Tiers. Complete these when you can – the rewards are certainly worth it!

Tournaments

An example of a live Deathmatch Tournament

There’s a Tournament every week, running for six days. Each day, you can register to join, and will be placed into a Heat alongside a selection of other players. There, you’ll compete to earn the highest cumulative score over the course of a day, based on your performance in Tournament Matches.

Do well and you’ll not only earn the best rewards available, such as Crates, A-Coins, Credits and Fortune Keys, but you’ll also qualify for the next-highest bracket the following day, bringing better rewards, but also skilled players to compete with.

Participating in Tournament Matches costs Tickets. Standard Tickets are acquired in Crates and Daily Objectives, and you can only earn 12 per day (and store up to 12). Gold Tickets work the same, but are acquired from the Shop. You can store as many Gold Tickets as you wish.

Seasonal Events

These are the big ones. Several times each year, we run major, headline Events with a unifying narrative theme. This way, we introduce new content to the game, while adding to the rich worldbuilding of Mech Arena.

Events can include:

  • Mechs
  • Weapons
  • Pilots
  • Maps
  • Skins

While they often coincide with real-world events, they’re always their own story – adding detail to the Mech Arena world and new reasons for its Pilots to clash in Mech-on-Mech combat.

Learn more about special, seasonal Events with the Mech Arena Gameplay Overview

Battle Pass

A new Battle Pass Season runs every three weeks. During this time, playing Matches will earn you progress along the Battle Pass. Everyone has access to the Silver Pass, which grants you Blueprints, Credits, Crates and other useful resources, with a final prize at the end – most often an Advanced Implant Crate containing a handy cybernetic upgrade for your Pilot of choice.

Alongside it runs the Gold Battle Pass. You’ll progress along it in parallel with the free Silver Pass, and it’s filled with lucrative rewards such as A-Coins, more valuable Crates, bigger bundles of Credits, and an exclusive final reward – most often a spectacular Legendary Skin. There’s also a Credit Stash that fills up with an amount matching any Credits you earn elsewhere in the game and is released to you when the current Battle Pass closes, up to a hefty 500k.

You can get access to the current Gold Pass and Credit Stash for a single in-app purchase – a great way to treat yourself to a nice, regular progress boost.

Choose from two Battle Passes and fight to earn rewards

Event Crate Rush

Event Crate Rushes are the place to go if you’re looking to pick up the latest and greatest Mech Arena Gear and Pilots before they’re available for A-Coins or Credits.

Playing is simple. Pick up Tokens for the Event of your choice from the Shop, access the Event Crate Rush interface, then press the button to spin the roulette. You’ll get something useful every time, with a chance to pick up the grand prize – often a newly released item.

There are a finite number of rewards in each Event Crate Rush, which means that each Token you spend increases your chance of winning the grand prize (unless you’re lucky and get it first!)

Note that any Tokens left unused after an Event Crate Rush ends will be converted to A-Coins for you.

Incredible Weapons and resources are up for grabs in the Event Crate Rush

Derby

Derby Events run over an extended period of time, often several weeks, and new Objectives become available each day. Check in regularly, complete all the Objectives you can, and progress along the Derby track to get the grand prize at the end.

New players should look out for a special Derby Event that awards the spider-like Arachnos Mech!

Playoff

Playoffs award points for completing repeatable Objectives, often with a boost for using particular Mechs or Weapons.

Once you’ve earned enough points to complete an initial progression track (picking up some nice resources along the way), you’ll have the chance to access a Playoff Leaderboard, where you can compete with your fellow players to earn the most in the time remaining. Hit the top three and you can snag some really valuable stuff.

Completing special Event Objectives to win big

Modifiers

To keep things fresh, we sometimes apply Modifiers to particular Mechs or Weapons, boosting certain stats or other attributes. Keep an eye out – your favorite bit of gear will no doubt have its time in the sun!

Checking to see which Modifiers are active and planning your battle strategies

Other

Look out for plenty of other Events, offering Objectives related to particular Modes, Mechs, Weapons, or general progression. They’re all worth doing, as they reward you with handy resources to turbo-charge your progression.

Shop

Mech Arena can be played completely for free, but the Shop is available if you’d like to make in-app purchases to pick up new Gear or help your progress along.

The Shop contains four tabs:

  • Flash Deals contains Mechs, Weapons, resource bundles, cosmetic skins and more – all at unbeatable prices. Be sure to check the Flash Deals tab up to three times a day to pick up some free crates!
  • Premium focuses on high-value chests, and bundles of resources. Useful when you need a boost or you’re gunning for that next big upgrade.
  • Pilots features – you guessed it – offers on Pilots, and resources for upgrading them. You can also get a free Basic Implant Crate here, up to three times per day.
  • Armory provides a cycling selection of Mechs and Weapons. Check it out and see what’s available each day.

Remember that any Mechs or Weapons purchased via the Shop are not subject to the Gear Hub progression rules. If you make an in app-purchase for something, it’s yours straight away.

Modifiers

To keep things fresh, we sometimes apply Modifiers to particular Mechs or Weapons, boosting certain stats or other attributes. Keep an eye out – your favorite bit of gear will no doubt have its time in the sun!
